Announcing the 18th Biennial Western Groundfish Conference

The 2014 Western Groundfish Conference will be held February 10-14 at the Harbour Towers Hotel and Suites in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.  The conference will open with a welcome/registration on Monday evening February 10th and oral presentations will begin Tuesday morning February 11th and run through until noon on Friday February 14th.  The poster session will be featured Tuesday evening February 11th and posters will remain on display until Thursday afternoon.  A banquet is scheduled for Thursday evening February 13th and other informal social events will be planned to maximize the time for interaction and discussion among participants.

The Western Groundfish Conference is a biennial meeting of marine scientists and professionals in other related fields who study, assess, and manage groundfish stocks along the Pacific coast of Canada and the United States.  Participants of the conference commonly represent state and national fisheries resource agencies, universities, NGOs, and stakeholder groups.  It is the only meeting of its kind on the West Coast and provides excellent opportunities for scientists and students from various institutions along the coast to interact with colleagues and present recent and ongoing research in the fields of groundfish biology, assessment, conservation and management.  The four-day program will cover the usual array of topics; life history, ecosystem processes, habitat and distribution, stock assessment, fishery monitoring, survey methods, and management.

The Organizing Committee will be issuing a call for abstracts in June. Participants will be asked to register and submit abstracts for oral and/or poster presentations by October 31st 2013.  Conference registration will open June 1st, late registration after October 31st.

Please check back here regularly as more details on conference registration fees, abstract submissions, and conference social activities are posted.
